Adam and Jesus in the scales.... Bull crap.
by snare&racket inone of the hardest questions to answer if you believe in an all loving god, is why 'he' permits so much pain and suffering?
of course as imperfect, sinful humans we all know we could not bare to watch a day of human suffering without helping out, how could a god cope and not intervene for thousands of years....?.
the answer most of us all accepted was a pair of scales.

One thing that both Christians and Atheists on this board agree on, is that Adam & Eve never really existed as humans.
That would be simple enough except that Christians have suggested that they may have been:
(a) spiritual
(b) metaphorical
(c) symbolic
(d) analogical
(e) ‘possibly’ existed as humans
Jesus could help out here but he is keeping quiet. For my money I would avoid all box-ticking and go with, Adam & Eve never really existed as humans.
Reference: Anatomically modern humans originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago, reaching full behavioral modernity around 50,000 years ago.
Hope this helps.

NewChapter Perhaps your confrontational approach and certainty is nothing to do with having been a Jehovah's Witnesses, and more to do with your disposition. You give the impression of being strong, certain and intelligent, and I don’t doubt that you are. You are certainly entertaining.
Tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness. In both nature and engineering, strength is often found in things that have the greatest tolerance. Brittle things are prone to suddenly snap.
Until it’s Time for me to go.

mindseye "God IS the essence of the universe and existence, similar to the Chinese conception of the Tao.
Now I realize this is not what most people think about when they talk about God.
Wise words indeed!

Giordano "...it took the god person billions of years to develop into....god."
Why does the cohesiveness and awesomeness of the universe require a god. To create the universe the god would have to be more powerful and awesome than its creation.
There are forces at work throughout the universe that have been present for billions of years. The universe may be conscious of its existence, though not in the way we think of consciousness. There may well be other life in far away galaxies.
To me, this is billions of miles away from a personal god we can kneel down to, worship or talk to.

Over the years I have had some heavy debates with Christians on this forum, both as Gladiator and under my real name. Whenever I quoted bible versus that contradicted their assertions, they would state that the bible is not inerrant or reliable. At other times they would quote from the same bible as the final authority to support their beliefs.
Whenever I questioned the duplicity of this contradictory behaviour, I was told that I was stuck with a Jehovah's Witness mentality that affected my attitude towards the bible. They urged me to embrace a more elastic view of the bible and belief. A flexible, slippery, imaginative attitude that perceives the bible as a no more than a metaphor.
As it happens I see my time spent as a Jehovah's Witness as a positive experience. It has enabled me to smell bull a mile off.
